You may be in the midst of your summer holidays — and I hope you are having a wonderful time — but back-to-school planning is not far away.
If your child is anything like mine, they love stationery. My son is constantly revamping his school pencil case and loves nothing more than new pens or pencils to play with. Today’s printable is a lovely way to brighten up plain, old pencils and give them the personal touch.
You will need:
- The PDF download.
- Pencils (the printable will cover a pencil up to 6.5″ long and up to 1″ around)
- PVA glue or Modge Podge.
Instructions:
- Open the printable with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Click on the highlighted box on the right-hand side of each pencil cover to type the name. The fonts you can use will depend on what you have installed on your own computer. I’ve used Univers Bold.
- Print out the sheet on copier paper. The highlighted boxes do not print out, they are just guides on the screen.
- Cut out and trim each strip to the length of your pencil.
- Cover each strip with glue, making sure to go right up to the edges on all sides.
- Line up the bottom edge of the cover with the bottom edge of your pencil. The pencils I used were not round, so I made sure to line up the name with one of the flat edges of the pencil first. Round pencils are easier, as it doesn’t matter where the name appears.
- Press the strip down from top to bottom and then roll the pencil to cover. Make sure you use plenty of glue to seal the join.
- Set the pencils aside to dry — preferably overnight — before you sharpen them. If they are slightly damp, the paper can tear. I have first-hand experience of this!
These are so quick to make and affordable too. A sweet gift and a lovely surprise in their pencil case at the start of the new school year.

Hi Stefanie – thank you! I am so glad you like them. My son loves them! Jackie
I love anything personalised and remember buying the printed ones from The Studio catalogue years ago for my kids. To make your own is a great idea. Pinning this for when I start thinking about Christmas present ideas.
Thanks Julie. I used to buy printed ones for my son too. I think kids love anything with their name on 🙂
Thanks a bunch for sharing these cute pencil cover!!! I will use them and put it in goody bags for my daughter’s 2nd birthday party. 🙂 The kids will love them, especially seeing their names on it. it will make them feel extra special.
Party bags – what a great idea, I didn’t think of that! Hope she has a lovely birthday 🙂
Thanks for this adorable idea. If ever you have time, can you please do a video on this. Thank you. 🙂
Thank you for your kind comment. Video is on my – very long – list of things to try. One day 🙂
Thanks for these awesome wrappers. I have already started working on advent gifts and ideas. These will be perfect cost effective gifts to give. People love stuff with their names on it.
Thanks Jennifer. I agree about names. Making something personal, even if it is small, makes all the difference.
