As a parent we’ve all heard the words “can I help you bake?” at least one time in our lives, right? As much as we want to make memories with our kids we can’t help but think of the clean up afterwards. I’ve definitely had my share of kitchen adventures gone wrong with my kids over the years but decorating our recent batch of cupcakes wasn’t one of them. Check out this No Mess Cupcake Decorating Idea for Kids that will leave everyone feeling happy.
My kids are forever asking to help me in the kitchen. And by help they want to help cook, bake, etc. Funny how helping never translates to clearing the table or doing the dishes though. I’m sure I can’t be alone on that one, right? Anyhow, I wasn’t feeling great for the whole first half of the summer so I had to make it up during the second half. We took our annual family vacation to N. Topsail Island, NC which allowed me to shop at Food Lion and pick up these fun and super easy to use Pillsbury™ Filled Pastry Bags. They come in 16 oz. Vanilla, Chocolate and Cream Cheese flavors. Knowing that each of my kids would want their own bag, and knowing I’d want my own as well, I picked up 2 bags of chocolate and 2 bags of vanilla. Each bag comes complete with it’s own built-in star tip making cupcake decorating that much easier and relatively mess free. With the built in star tip you can create stars, rosettes, and waves.
No Mess Cupcake Decorating Idea for Kids
As our last hurrah before school starts we baked some Pillsbury Devil’s Food cupcakes by following the package instructions and took our Pastry Bags for a spin. Can you tell that my kids are excited?
This is Grace, my little baker. She could NOT wait to get started and she did such a great job decorating her cupcakes.
My oldest, Emilee, wanted to have a little fun before she got down to business.
This little guy, Kole, just kept, swirling and swirling and swirling the frosting. For a first time piper, he did great.
Whenever I bake cupcakes I prefer to frost them by using a piping bag. I love how piped cupcakes look but I don’t love filling the bags and the mess it can create by refilling them. I’m also not a huge fan of digging the tip out of the frosting bag. With the Pastry Bags you have all the fun of piping the frosting onto the cupcake but without any of the mess. Once you’re done, you simply toss it in the garbage.
Using the filled pastry bags also eliminates the mess that goes along with frosting a cupcake with a knife. I don’t know about you but when it’s all said and done, my hands are a mess.
Now that the weather has officially started to cool off and fall is on the horizon I plan to put my oven to good use. This is my favorite time of year and knowing that I have a bunch of eager kids who want to make some memories with me in the kitchen, I see plenty more cupcakes in our future. And of course now that we have the filled pastry bags as a no mess solution to decorating them, there’s nothing stopping us.
As I mentioned earlier, you can pick up these filled Pastry Bags at your local Food Lion. On your next visit you can save $1 on any Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag with this Food Lion Digital Coupon.
While we opted to make cupcakes you can certainly use these filled pastry bags to decorate pretty much anything that’s edible. It’s also a great place to start if you are just learning the techniques of piping. These pastry bags are so easy to use that even my 6 year old could do it.
