We interrupt this party to bring you some amazing news. The Silhouette Cameo has arrived! Mine arrived last night and she and I got acquainted pret-ty quickly!
What is a Silhouette Cameo you say? It’s Silhouette’s newest cutting machine. Different from the Silhouette SD, the Cameo accommodates paper and other media that are 12” wide as opposed to the SD’s 9”. AND, it will cut lengths up 10 FEET LONG. Awesomesauce! Thank you, Silhouette, for letting me test drive this bad boy! 🙂
I’ve been really trying to make our house a home lately so I’ve been doing little decorating projects here and there. My 5 year old says to me, “Mommy, are you trying to make our house fancy?” lol I’ve been wanting to do a pennant banner for awhile and had some paper triangles cut out but when I received my Cameo and the Heat Transfer Starter Kit, I thought that the canvas drop cloth that I’ve been using in, I don’t know, like EVERY project lately, would be perfect.
I started by typing out the word “FALL” in my Silhouette Software program and then flipped it horizontally giving it a mirrored image. You always want to mirror your text when you use the Heat Transfer Paper. I wanted a nice bold font so I chose “VARSITY”. I loaded my flocked heat transfer paper in YELLOW and let the Cameo do it’s “thang”.
Not letting my little paper triangles go to waste, I used them as my pattern and traced and cut out 4 triangles, one for each letter of the word “F-A-L-L”. I used the finished edge of the drop cloth for the top so that worked out perfect.
I then took my little hook thingy and poked holes in the canvas triangles so that I could weave my twine though it.
Next I laid all my letters out and ironed them down one at a time. I figured out the trick to getting the letters to adhere nice and good is to peel the clear plastic off of the design AFTER it has cooled off. I have to say that I originally planned on using the regular heat transfer paper but had a few issues. I’m sure it was me and not the machine though. I was home with an infant, a sick child and heck, I didn’t even realize the machine had a PAUSE button. lol
I weaved the jute through it and hung it up on my back door. I took scraps of ribbon and tied them loosely in between the letters as the finishing touch. The ribbon I had on hand was wired and it worked perfect! I was able to make the little scraps hang down where I wanted them.
XOXO
